The Gordon Golden Oldies took on the 'Youngies' at Forsyth Park on Saturday 7 November. After starting strongly in the field the GO's came up against 'Youngies' Captain Noodle who hit a wonderful 50* including 2 sixes into the wall at Forsyth. Buttsy was the best of the bowlers taking 4-14. The Youngies hit 6-150.

The Oldies had a tough start to their chase losing Pretzel in the opening over and finished up at 6-86. 'Bob' took two wickets. Davo was at her best with 2 overs 2 for 3, while none other than El Prez picked up a caught and bowled (sorry Nutty!).

A huge thanks to Geri a.k.a. Grandma for organising the Oldies. We look forward to you all coming out of retirement for T20 again next season! We would particularly like to congratulate the Oldies on their outstanding sledging of El Prez!

Great fun was had by all and the REDS have collected our first trophy of the season. May there be many more!

Brewer Shield Premiers

Brewer Shield Premiers

Huge congratulations to Captain Nicole Shaw and her Brewer Shield team who defeated Bankstown in a thriller at Chatswood Oval on Sunday 24 February to win back-to-back Premierships.

On a rare sunny and perfect day for cricket, Bankstown won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 9-149 from their 40 overs. Our bowlers shared the honours with Steph Hickman, Nicole Shaw, Brittany Mitchell, Rachel Lodge and Suchira Chauhan all taking wickets. Mathilda Carmichael lead the way with 3-39 from 8 overs.

150 for a win was easily the highest score our girls have chased in two seasons of Brewer Shield. They got off to a slow but solid start and were well behind the run rate with 42 on the board in over 22. Mathilda Carmichael and Shannon Heath came to the wicket and set about lifting the run rate with glorious shots around the wicket in a match winning partnership of 72 scoring 52* and 41 respectively. Jo Lawson finished the job off with a quick fire 17* and the girls came home with just 8 balls to spare!

The match was one of the best ever seen in Brewer Shield and worthy of a Premiership decider.

Well done Coach David Lawson, Assistant Glenn Shaw and our girls for achieving back-to-back Premierships!

Women's Cricket on TV!

Women's Cricket on TV!

The only down side to this is that the one hour highlights package will be screened by Channel 9 on Sunday 10 February from 11:00am to 12:00pm when the majority of Women's Cricket fans will either be at Grade Cricket, or at the SCG watching the Women's One Day International scheduled for that day.

We need to make sure as many people as possible watch the highlights package, so please help by spreading the word. If you're not going to be at home on that day please set your video or DVD recorder before you head out, and ask anyone you know who might be filling out a ratings book to say they watched the package!!!

Happy New Year from President

Happy New Year from President

Players and Supporters,

Welcome to 2008! I hope Santa was good to you.

Believe it or not, we are already more than half way through the 2007/08 Season. Of course, given the amount of washed out matches we've had it's easy to think "but we've hardly played". Ironically last weekend was perfect for wielding the willow.

How are our teams going?

1st grade ' currently 5th

3rd grade ' 3rd (fell from a clear 2nd to 3rd without playing any cricket!)

Brewers ' 1st (great work girls ' take it all the way)

Our Juniors have been playing well and enjoying themselves immensely. Below are a few words from Mike Spencer:

Gordon Juniors has 17 players and offers a team in both the B Grade and C Grade competitions.  Four of the 17 players always play in the C Grade competition with the extra players required being made up from the 'lower' half of the B Grade team on a rotational basis.  The four players (Lindsay, Rose, Annabel & Emma) range in age from 9 to 13 and all enjoy their cricket and are having a lot of fun.  They are benefiting from the experience of training and playing with some B Graders

Half way through the season is a good time to thank all of those who have contributed to you getting on the field. A huge thank you for your efforts so far is extended to:

Creon Cambitzi -Champion of the Juniors who has made sure everything has been in place to get our Juniors on the field

Keith Maclaine -Long time supporter of our Juniors

Mike Spencer - New to the Club this season and managing our Junior C Grade team

Tony and Frances Dorn - Scorers and long time supporters of Juniors

Greg Smith - Juniors Umpire and Assistant Coach

David Hicks - C Grade scorer

Anthony Smit - C Grade assistant

Gretta Nathan, Brett Smyth Oliver, Rob van den Honet ' Junior "helpers"

Nick Mowat - B grade photographer!

Charlotte Anneveld - 1st Grade Captain and Club Coach

Bernard Perry - 1st Grade Manager, Grounds Convenor and General Committee

David Lawson - Brewer Coach

Glenn Shaw - Brewer assistance

Lauren Hamman - Social and General Committee

Kate Griffith - 3rd Grade Vice-Captain, General Committee

Annelie Chapple - Equipment and General Committee

Alan Patrick - Sponsorship

Jessica Davidson - Treasurer, Sponsorship

Bronwyn Calver - Deputy President, 1st Grade Vice-Captain, Webmaster extraordinaire

Nicky Paterson - Exceptionally efficient Secretary, 3rd Grade Captain

My most humble apologies if I have forgotten anyone. As you can see lots needs to happen behind the scenes to get your teams on the field every week. Without all of our supporters and volunteers the task would be impossible. Next time you see any of these people, how about you say a quick "thanks for your help"?

Performance highlights so far:

Bronwyn Calver hit her maiden Gordon hundred against St George-Sutherland and is the very clear leader competition aggregate leader with 421 runs

Lauren Hamman ' leading wicket taker in 1st Grade with 16

Jess Henry ' leading run scorer in 3rd grade competition with 202 runs and closely shadowed in 3rd place by Annelie Chapple (split by a youngster from St George-Sutherland who has been chasing us all season!)

Kate Griffith ' Leading wicketkeeper in 3rd Grade with 5 dismissals

Sarah Thompson claimed a magnificent hat-trick in the first round of Super 8's

Heidie Cheadle ' Leading run scorer in Brewer Shield with 149. Heidie has just moved to the USA with her family where we are sure she will introduce the Yanks to cricket!

Training

Training commences again as follows:

1st, 3rd's and Brewer - Wednesday 16 January from 5.30pm at Chatswood Oval

Well done so far and good luck for the rest of the season.

Game two of the Super 8's competition on Saturday brought the best out of Sarah Thompson. Having batted first, Gordon set Sydney a target of 78 to win off 10 overs.

As Sarah prepared to bowl the 9th over, Sydney, with wickets in hand, needed 23 runs off 2 overs. The field was placed deep to prevent boundaries and at this stage it really was anyone's game. That was until Sarah sent the wickets flying with her first delivery, tricking danger player Gail de Jong with her slower ball. Fantastic stuff.

The pressure was still on both teams as Sarah ran in for her second delivery. As the batter tried to pull her over midwicket Nicky Paterson plucked the ball out of the air, Sarah had her second wicket and was on a hat-trick. Could this get any better?

The crowd rose to their feet clapping Sarah in as she took off from her mark. The batter edged the ball behind which Jess Henry safely gloved and Sarah had three wickets from her first three balls. Everyone erupted, cheering a magnificent, entertaining and brilliant effort. Sarah ended with 3/2 and ensured Gordon won by 17 runs. Well done Sarah on a fantastic effort!!
