First Grade Round 5 and 6

Round 5

The 1st Grade was matched against Northern Districts for Round 5 the match was a T20 played at Chatswood Oval.

Northern Districts batted first and some excellent fielding and accurate bowling by the Gordon players helped restrict their score to 6 for 128 at the end of their 20 overs.  Of particular note were 2 great run outs and 3 wickets for Emma Doutreband.

Then it was Gordons turn to bat.  A well calculated run chase with the first 6 batters all making double figures saw the 1st grade team reach the target in the last over with 4 balls to spare.  Special mention to Shannon Heath for her calmness as the balls counted down and the target loomed.

Overall, a good win and a real team effort.

Round 6

This round we were back to a 50 over match with our opponents St George.  Again this match was played at Chatswood Oval.

Gordon won the toss and batted first. Steady progress was made with Emily Leys making 54, Hannah Perry 57 and Heidi Cheadle 30.  At the end of the 50 overs we had reached 9 for 212 a bit less than what we had been aiming for.  But to their credit St George bowled and fielded well and were able to restrict our final total.

Despite 3 wickets for Mathilda Carmichael and a 30 minute break to lightning and thunder nothing the Gordon players could do was able to stop a great innings by Leah Poulton (123 not out) for St George which saw them reach their target for the loss of the 3 wickets in the 33rd over.  The Gordon players worked hard in the field and the bowlers all tried to minimise the scoring opportunities but in this match nothing seemed to help.
