Third grade round 4 2011/12

Round four saw Gordon taking a road trip to Raby to take Campbelltown-Camden, one of the new teams in the comp.

After correctly calling "heads" to win the toss, captain Norma decided to change things up and bat first. El Prez and Hankers went out to bat first, and stayed together to put on a very handy first wicket partnership worth 70. Hankers retired after a well made 32*. Spud made sure that Gordon was able to capitalise on our good start, hitting through and over the field several times. Riggers looked a natural in her debut batting performance. Kris' efforts warming up the next in batter (with some help from an opposition supporter!) made sure that Jane was able to play a shot-of-the-day cover drive off the last over. Gordon finished their innings on 4-105.

Carly opened the bowling and was unlucky not to get more reward for her pace and swing, picking up one wicket and bowling 2 maidens. Kris kept the screws on from the other end, and by the time our two opening bowlers finished the opening 6 overs, Campbelltown had only 16 runs off the bat. Coggsy came on and had an immediate effect, deceiving Campbelltown's dangerous big hitter who hit a simple catch to mid on (although Norma managed to make it look very difficult!). Gordon's stranglehold on the match continued through Hankers, who conceded less runs than overs bowled. A fantastic one handed diving catch from Kris gave Hankers the wicket she deserved. Jane was left wondering why we don't get to play on turf more often, with her purchase off the wicket giving her 2 scalps.

The final wicket of the day may have caught Jess Henry still in Rugby World Cup mode. After affecting a run out dismissal from mid-off, El Prez was confronted by the batter who had continued to run off the pitch. It was a shoulder charge Sonny Bill would have been proud of! Although not the desired result; it was our club president who ended up on the deck, a little bit the worse for wear.

Another great batting, bowling and fielding performance saw Gordon register their third win of the season.
