Sensational Sezza snares a hat-trick
Game two of the Super 8's competition on Saturday brought the best out of Sarah Thompson. Having batted first, Gordon set Sydney a target of 78 to win off 10 overs.
As Sarah prepared to bowl the 9th over, Sydney, with wickets in hand, needed 23 runs off 2 overs. The field was placed deep to prevent boundaries and at this stage it really was anyone's game. That was until Sarah sent the wickets flying with her first delivery, tricking danger player Gail de Jong with her slower ball. Fantastic stuff.
The pressure was still on both teams as Sarah ran in for her second delivery. As the batter tried to pull her over midwicket Nicky Paterson plucked the ball out of the air, Sarah had her second wicket and was on a hat-trick. Could this get any better?
The crowd rose to their feet clapping Sarah in as she took off from her mark. The batter edged the ball behind which Jess Henry safely gloved and Sarah had three wickets from her first three balls. Everyone erupted, cheering a magnificent, entertaining and brilliant effort. Sarah ended with 3/2 and ensured Gordon won by 17 runs. Well done Sarah on a fantastic effort!! |
